AAAA Saturday UI/UX Event
Just Some stupid random thoughts for personal recording.
On last Saturday, I took part in an UI/UX panel event at NYCDA cooperated with Capitol Foundry.
Only wen to the panel discuss, first the speakers mentioned several points which I considered important:
1. Critic of other websites and products
2. Listing what is good design and what is bad design is a good practice.
3. And there is always a debate on “is Craigslist a bad design?”
4. It doesn’t matter how many prototyping tools you can manage, what is important is the ability to learn new tools.
5. Always keep the design minimal
So, here comes the project. People broke into several teams, giving their concept on brainstorming, wire-framing on an interactive bank interface.
Name: Capital 2
Goal: Creating “interactive ATM machine assistant”, wireframe of bank interface based on business needs, creating user flow as well.
Key words: thinking about accessibility, functionality, whateverity…….
Some experienced UX practicers always brings about scenario analysis and persona analysis. For example, imagine there is a person who is a “job title”. One day, (make up your own story….) okay, then she meets some problem (your time to solve the issue.)
There are several impressive concepts:
1. Access by Chat box. From a AI design prospect, it is a creative approach by messaging between the user and computer.
2. A Karaoke ATM. Sign in by singing your favorite song.
3. Using customized Time/Date, maybe consider location, how many stores around? Maps?
4. Thinking about what people can do during their waiting time? What about add some loading time?
5. Considering page transition like slide, expand, and so on.
To sum up, Concepts came out either creative or traditional. Sometimes a creative approach can be a future solution however a traditional approach sometimes more functional.
Oh, wait a second, here I want to share an interesting story with you.
When I got there, I and another panel speaker Seth were locked from outdoor. I talked with him and asked him if he is attending the panel discussion.
Here is basically our conversation:
Me: Are you coming for only the panel discussion?
He: yes, yes,
Me: yes, so do I ! It’s my first time here.
He relieved: I am so glad I am not the only person.
I smiled, so do I !!
(We chatted on the elevator)
Me: What do you do now?
He: I am a visual designer from Google, and also I do some UX stuff.
Me: wow, actually I am looking for jobs, I am a graphic designer now I want to transfer into a UX world.
He: yeah yeah, actually I am looking for UX designer,
Me: But I literally have little experience on UX.
He: that’s totally OK, as long as you want to learn.
Me: I definitely want to learn, that’s why I come to the panel for.
Then magic things happened. When we got there, the organized turned out to be so nice to him, and a little bit cold towards me. I am a little bit confused but soon grab the answer: he is one of the speaker!
Okay, now I am a little bit embarrassed because I thought he is one of the listeners and he thought I am also one the of the panel speakers! Okey that’s fine. Finally, after the whole panel discussion was over, I grabbed him and gave him my business card and got myself out of the room. When I got home, I searched his LinkedIn and it turned out to be he is really a genius and he is so modest, talking with him is so comfortable and enjoyable. Now, I am totally became a fan of him. Hahah.
At Last but not least.
Always think about the “Next Step”.
